Our India journey

Mars entered India in 2002. Today, there are over 1,000 Associates across our segments which include Mars Wrigley Confectionery, Mars Pet Nutrition, Royal Canin and the newly introduced Mars Food and Edge segments.

Our India supply footprints extend from the Northern to the Southern parts of the country. We have 4 factories in India in Baddi (Himachal Pradesh), Bangalore (Karnataka), Pune (Maharashtra) and Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh). In Baddi and Bangalore we manufacture Gums, Mints and Confectionery, while in Pune we manufacture Chocolate and our Petfood factory is located in Hyderabad.

We also have an Innovation Center in Bangalore for the confectionery segment in India and South East Asia.

Pet Nutrition

Mars has been a pioneer in pet care category in India, especially in area of pet nutrition. Pet owners in India were new to the concept of prepared, complete and balanced nutrition that is essential for happy healthy pets till Mars came in the market. Mars in India started manufacturing PEDIGREE® branded dog food products in October 2002, in our Hyderabad factory.

Today, Mars is investing to develop this category through education of vets, breeders and pet owners.

Some of the key segment highlights include:-

  • Mars India pet food brands are available in more than 35,000 outlets, and we are looking at doubling the capacity of Hyderabad plant in the next three-five years
  • Apart from marketing leading brands such as PEDIGREE® and WHISKAS® we want to expand the reach of our products through structured distribution expansion, introduction of smaller packs besides stepping up on awareness programs among pet owners.
  • We have introduced smaller pack of PEDIGREE® priced at Rs. 20 for 100 gm to unlock more convenience for our customers in the prepared food category
  • In 2013, we launched Senior Adult Dog Food keeping up with their tag line of “Every dog deserves leading nutrition”, the new product PEDIGREE® Adult Senior for older dogs has been specially formulated for dogs who are 7+ years old.

Mars Wrigley Confectionery

The journey of Mars Chocolate started in India in 2012, while Wrigley has been present since the 1990’s. In 2014, Mars signed a MoU with the Government of Maharashtra to set-up our first chocolate factory. The factory became operational in 2016. The Pune factory is the home of Snickers® in India

The integration of Mars Wrigley Confectionery in 2017, has unlocked opportunities for associates, customers and consumers through strategic value addition into newer segments, through our combined portfolio offerings, and in the way that we do business through an extended distribution network.

Some of the key segment highlights include:-

  • In 2013, in order to cater to the palette of Indian consumers, we introduced Snickers® with a Green Dot – a completely vegetarian recipe customized for India.
  • We launched M&M’s® in India in 2017, with the aim to grow the nascent bite-size category in the country.
  • We wanted to make Snickers® accessible to more consumers. Hence, we launched a new 15g SKU of Snickers in India in September 2017 priced at Rs. 10.
  • We delivered a heat robust chocolate recipe especially for India to withstand the summer heat thus delivering on our Quality Principle
  • In 2018, we have enhanced the DoubleMint® portfolio in India with the launch of Double Mint Chewy Mints®


Royal Canin

At ROYAL CANIN®, we live by the conviction that pets are not people; they are unique animals with unique nutritional needs that are distinctly different from our own.In an industry that continues to adapt to popular trends in cat and dog food, the Royal Canin segment in India is constantly working in the Health Nutrition space of our pets by building on our deep scientific knowledge.

Royal Canin has become a leading pet care brand in India especially in health nutrition segment. Advancing towards the journey of individualized pet food for each cat & dog, Royal Canin India has successfully launched size health nutrition, breed specific nutrition and special care nutrition over the years. Driven by mutuality principle, we are the pioneers in creating various prospects of education & knowledge upgradation for our prescribers which include vets, breeders & pet shops.

Apart from marketing leading brands such as ROYAL CANIN® we want to expand the reach of our global products through structured distribution & our specific pillar marketing channels expansion to reach 26 Mn Pet populations of India.

The Science supports our fundamental values such as “Cat and Dog First” and “Knowledge and Respect”. Indeed, our scientists support in sharing our expertise with animal professionals and scientific communities as well as help in expanding our knowledge about cats and dogs and their precise nutritional needs.

India Portfolio: ROYAL CANIN® precise nutrition foods for dogs and cats sold through prescription based marketing channels such as Veterinary, SPT & Pro channels.

Some of the key segment highlights include:-

  • Royal Canin India started its journey through an Importer route way back in 1998.
  • We started India business operations as Registered Legal entity in the form of import, Sale & Distribution business headquartered in Mumbai in 2007.
  • We have 6 distribution centers (Mumbai, Delhi Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Chennai covering Pan India supplies since 2009.

Mars Food

Mars Food is dedicated to providing better food today and a better world tomorrow. We seek to make everyday meals healthier, easier, more affordable and tastier, and to serve more communities responsibly. With the same vision Mars Food started India Operations in 2017 and launched its First Brand - DOLMIO® - range of pasta sauces. In the same Year, we acquired Preferred Brands International a fully integrated manufacturer and marketer of all-natural, ready-to-heat Indian and Asian food products sold primarily under the Tasty Bite® brand. Mars Food is excited to be a part of one of the fastest growing Packaged Food categories market in the world and India is a Key focus market for us.

Local Production: All TASTY BITE® products for export to global markets are produced at TASTY BITE® factory in Pune

Mars Edge

This new segment is dedicated to human health and wellness through targeted nutritional products offered at accessible price-points and grounded in evidence –based science. In 2016, Mars signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tata Trusts, one of India’s oldest leading philanthropic organizations working to imporove the quality of life of the communities it serves. Working with Tata Trusts, Mars Edge – has just launched GoMo™ Dal Crunchies, a product rich in protein and micronutrients designed to help close the nutritional gaps of 6-18 year olds in India. GoMo™ Dal Crunchies is ‘dal based’ and made predominantly of yellow pea and is classified as a health supplement in India. It includes a unique route-to-market approach that involves distribution through rural micro-entrepreneurs.
